Drug abuse, suicide, sexual experimentation, eating disorders, teenage angst and rabies, the innocent Peanuts kids have reached their teenage years and things just got dark! Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead brings audiences the “unauthorised” account of Charlie Brown and friends to The Basement from September 28.
Dog Sees God is both a high-energy satiric comedy and a savage expose of life in high school. Inspired by Charles M. Schulz classic comic strip, Dog Sees God is an exploration of modern teen culture that is both confronting and entertaining.
Snoopy is dead; CB’s best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculations; his sister has gone Goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalised; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of his group’s bullying, sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limit.
Penned by first time playwright Bert V. Royal, after quitting his job as a casting director, Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead debuted in 2004 as part of the New York International Fringe Festival and was awarded the Excellence Award for Best Production.
“Inventive and raunchy … hysterically funny” NEW YORK POST
The Moving Theatre Company is bringing the show to Auckland, after the sell-out success of David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity In Chicago, at the San Francisco Bath-House in 2007 and the critically acclaimed Mr Marmalade (Chapman Tripp Production of the Year, 2008) they are a theatre collective that is definitely up for the job.
